Chandigarh, 6 August 2025

Haryana’s Energy, Transport, and Labour Minister Sh. Anil Vij, speaking on the issue of SYL, said, “The Hon’ble Supreme Court is the highest court of our country, and its decisions should be implemented willingly and with respect.” He added that the recent meeting between the Chief Ministers of Punjab and Haryana was held in a cordial atmosphere and the decision of the meeting is to go to the Supreme Court. He expressed hope that the Supreme Court will once again rule in favour of Haryana.

While answering questions asked by the media persons today, Sh. Vij said that both Chief Ministers of Punjab and Haryana acknowledged that their recent meeting on the SYL issue was conducted in a positive atmosphere. He added that a decision from the Supreme Court is awaited and expected to favor Haryana, as it has in the past.

Sh. Vij criticized Punjab for denotifying acquired land and not allowing water to flow to Haryana despite court orders. He pointed out that while excess water from Punjab flows into Pakistan, Haryana continues to face shortages.

On the question of bringing Indus River water, Sh. Vij remarked that “It is by drinking the water of the Indus that we became Hindus, and we should have received a larger share.” He accused Congress of siding with Pakistan and blamed them for giving most of Indus water to Pakistan during their rule. He praised PM Modi for suspended the Indus Water Treaty and initiating plans for that water.

He added that various commissions, including the Justice Reddy Commission, have ruled in Haryana’s favor and the Supreme Court’s judgment must be respectfully implemented, as it is the highest court in the land.
