Governor calls for strengthening global ties to further promote Haryana’s cultural legacy

The second convocation ceremony of Dada Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts (DLSUPVA) was held on Monday. Students were awarded degrees under the chairmanship of the university’s Chancellor and Governor of the state, Prof Ashim Kumar Ghosh. During this, his wife, First Lady of Haryana Mitra Ghosh, along with the state’s Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda and CM’s OSD Dr. Raj Nehru, were present as distinguished guests. During the ceremony, 760 students from different batches and courses were awarded graduation and postgraduate degrees.
Addressing the convocation, Chancellor of the University and Governor Prof. Ashim Kumar Ghosh called upon Dada Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts (DLC SUPVA) to strengthen partnerships with global art institutions and ensure active participation in international cultural exchanges. He said that such efforts would help establish Haryana as an influential contributor to the world’s artistic heritage.
Congratulating the graduating students, the Governor noted that India’s higher education system is among the largest in the world, currently educating over 40 million students. Haryana, too, has made significant progress in this direction. He said that DLC SUPVA is not merely imparting degrees for employment, but is nurturing creative leaders who are influencing society through fields such as performing and visual arts, fashion and textile design, film and television, as well as architecture.
He further remarked that artists from Haryana are earning recognition across the country for their talent. Haryanvi folk traditions, music, theatre, and dance are receiving widespread appreciation. This growing popularity, he said, signals a cultural renaissance that must be carried forward with a sense of responsibility. At the same time, it is essential to remain rooted in our traditions while embracing innovation. He extended his congratulations and best wishes to all the graduating students.

The Chancellor of the University and Governor of the State, Prof. Ashim Kumar Ghosh, said in his address that the institution is named after the great “Surya Kavi” Dada Lakhmi Chand, whose legacy continues to inspire generations of artists. Congratulating the graduating students, he remarked that a convocation is not merely a formal ceremony, but a celebration of knowledge, creativity, and responsibility. Citing Rabindranath Tagore, he said that the highest education is that which does not merely give us information but makes our life in harmony with all existence. He added that the students are stepping into the world as ambassadors of culture and creativity.

Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda congratulated all the students receiving their degrees and said that participating in such a program is not only a state duty, but also a matter of personal joy and pride. He said that this university is the heart of our state’s art, culture, and creativity. Graduating from here is proof that you have not only become educated but have also honed your sensibilities and skills here. The presence of the Governor at the ceremony reflects that the government is serious about the state’s education system. Under the leadership of CM Nayab Singh Saini, our vision is clear. We are not just an institution that awards degrees, but are developing skill centres. He told the students that when you step out of this institution, you will not have just a piece of paper in your hands as a degree, but also the expectations of society and the dream of a developed India on your shoulders. You all are the bearers of Haryana’s rich heritage in the field of arts and performance. Your art should carry the fragrance of Haryana’s soil along with its culture and modernity. Do not just be job seekers, but take a resolve to become job providers. In the era of technology and AI, human emotions and ethical values become important. Make yourself a great person along with being a successful professional. Never forget your roots. Cherish in your memory the sacrifices of your parents and the guidance of your teachers, because behind your success is their years of hard work. He said that I congratulate Vice-Chancellor Dr. Amit Arya for the way he has nurtured the youth; the state will remain indebted to him for this.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Dr. Amit Arya, welcomed all the guests and congratulated the students receiving their degrees. He told the students that this day is an important milestone in their lives. It is not just the conclusion of your academic journey, but the beginning of a new era, new opportunities, and new responsibilities. The knowledge, skills, and values you have acquired at this University will guide you throughout your life. The purpose of DLCSUPVA is not just to provide education, but to ensure the overall development of students, so that they can become knowledgeable, sensitive, ethical, and responsible citizens. He also expressed gratitude to all the teachers and staff members who have made significant contributions to guiding the students and building their bright future. He said that the convocation is the result of the hard work of parents, teachers, the institution, and the students, and therefore we should celebrate this ceremony as a festival and a celebration.
